Announcements

Announcements and prayer requests will be included in the bulletin if received by Thursday evening.

Last Sunday (June 8) members of the Leadership Arvada 2018 group installed a Community Share Station (aka Little Free Pantry) in our front yard! We will blessed and filled the box.

From now until Labor Day we are collecting school supplies for MCC kits that go to many places around the world where they are needed. The lists are on the back table and with the bulletins.  Each kit contains the following:

  • 4 spiral or perforated-pages notebooks (8.5 in x 10.5 in and 70 sheets)
  • 8 new unsharpened pencils
  • 1 ruler (flat, good quality; must indicate 30 cm; inch markings optional)
  • 12 colored pencils (in packaging)
  • 1 large eraser
  • 2 new black or blue ballpoint pens
  • 1 small metal pencil sharpener (one or two holes)

MCC Central States is hosting Moses Simbeye from Zambia as an International Volunteer Exchange Program (IVEP) participant in Denver this year. Moses will be working at The Conflict Center in Denver and is in need of a host home from August 2018 through July of 2019. This is a great way to learn from and share with a young person from across the globe. If you’re interested in hosting Moses, please contact Rachel Protentis at The Conflict Center at 303.865.5634 or rachel.protentis@conflictcenter.org.

Would anyone with creative energy like to create a “walking stick” that I can take to Annual Assembly? See me for details. We also need to take a congregational “selfie!” Jeni

Our MSMC assembly theme this year is “Pursuing God’s dreams. How then shall we live?”. The implication is that we’re on a journey—together.

        Together we’re working out the details of life in the context of empire and the social abuses that accompany that kind of power concentration.

        Together we’re taking the risks of including and protecting the most vulnerable people in our society.

        Together we are trying to follow the road-map that Jesus outlined in his Sermon on the Mount.

It isn’t easy – In fact, it sometimes seems risky. We might even get into trouble (Matt. 5:12, The Message). And sometimes we just keep our heads low, so we can help protect folks who need to be “unseen”.

But just like many before us who have started out on a journey into an unknown future, we know we can lean on the One who has gone before us—and we can lean on each other.

Living Light of Peace invites any interested persons to join us on the fourth Thursday of every month to make comforters for MCC. We will meet at our church from 10am-2pm. Bring a sack lunch.  RSVPs are appreciated to Jeni Hiett Umble (jeni.umble@gmail.com).
